Swell: An Audio-Based Social Media Platform Launched in India
Sudha K Varadarajan and Arish Ali explored the audio and voice space. And they launched Swell, an asynchronous audio-based social media platform, in India.
Swell an audio-based social media platform has been launched in India on 10th June 2021. It is an app-based social media platform. It is available for iOS users along with Android. Users can download this Swell app easily from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Swell is a very lightweight app, which is only about 17MB in size. Users can post audio on the Swell app. And can also follow any other user. Apart from this, users can also comment and like on the post.
We have seen some language restrictions on other social media platforms. But there will be no language restriction in the use of this audio-based platform. Users can do both public conversations as well as private conversations in the Swell app. Swell's private conversations will be completely secure. So, no one can be able to access it.
Why Audio?
A Social media platform does not sound right without the audio medium. It is the fundamental problem in the current social media platforms. There is so much that can be misunderstood with only images and words. There is a lot that we can take out from that context. It cannot be like a Zoom calling app. In the Zoom app, people are going through scheduled meetings a day in and day out. Here the user can communicate with voice, at their own pace, and on their own time. That is What Swell, an asynchronous audio platform, came into being.
How It Is Different from The Clubhouse?
Recently, we see the sudden rise of new-age social media audio platforms. These are Clubhouse, Discord, Twitter Spaces, and Reddit Talks.
It would be wrong to compare the Swell app with Clubhouse. Let us know that Clubhouse is also an audio-based social media platform. Although Clubhouse is a real-time audio chat-based social media platform, for which you have to set aside time. Whereas users can access Swell at any time. And commenting facility is also available here. Apart from this, a user will be able to comment on any other user's post at any time.
Swell is a platform where people can capture their moments. For example, a podcaster or a live stream host can engage their audience or friends through audio even when they are not streaming. It is a place where you can also capture your life in audio. Here you can keep talking and build your audio blog or portfolio.
Conclusion
The audio-based social media app has been launched in India with lots of features. Swell is something different from other social media platforms. After all, real emotion can only be communicated through voice. The Swell platform follows the new social media guideline of the Government of India. I will come again with some more tech updates.
